The newspaper you asked about in the other post works great as bedding, you can add cut up egg cartons as well to the bin, The reason you are adding the bedding is for the Environment for the worms to live. and bury the food waste that the worms will be eating, 
Leaves,pre-composted food waste,composted horse or cattle manure,wood chips shredded paper. these are all examples of what you could start a worm bin with as bedding and food sourse.
