Great job! Not only is this an educational experience for the kids, but hopefully they develop a lifelong interest in composting. When you take the bins home, do you plan on keeping them indoors or outdoors? The Composter we have is contained, so I'm curious how you'd maintain the ones you have in your keep them outdoors.

I compost with worms in my grade 1 classroom (Canada). The students love it, and they can't wait until it is time to feed them! They are fascinated at how fast the worms can eat through the food. It is such a great hands-on learning experience! So much to talk about and so much to discover!!
I don't find that taking the worms home over the summer is that hard to do. I have enough organic scraps from my kitchen that it isn't difficult to manage. Right now I have 1 worm bin in my classroom, and I am wanting to start 1 more bin.
I encourage all teachers to give this a try - worms aren't scary! They don't crawl around the room! They don't bite! The students love it!What more can you ask for in a "classroom critter"?

Thanks Barb

I think I will stick to being a worm farmer,

Not too sure I could be a politician. But I am a real people person.
