Jeff and Lorie, you have a nice looking family. I bet the little ones enjoy helping with the worms.

I've been a composter for years. My first bin was just chicken wire strung together into a sort of box that I tossed all the yard clippings into. I remember how excited I was to see the worms turning it into black gold.

Vermicomposting is a great concept. I hope you have lots of success with your business.

Have a great weekend,
Joey Reynolds

Hi Will

Worms will live fine in shredded newspaper, but the worms would need a food source, this is why shredded news paper is great, The worms live in it and the paper can bury organic food waste very well.
As the paper rots the worms eat the paper as well, remember paper was a tree at one time. As a rule, anything that was once living a worm can eat.

Hi Julie

Worm Composting is something to get excited about, It is a great way to reduce all the organic waste going to the Landfill, and vermicomposting is alot of Fun!. Seeing your landlord is also your friend I think we can change his mind on the yukky stuff about worm composting, First a worm bin will not cause any extra moisture in the basement, all the moisture stays inside the bin, I would prefer you use a plastic bin. There is NO smell with worm composting,If a worm does manage to get out of the bin, you will find it about a foot away from the bin dried up.
I do suggest you refer your landlord to my website and read about composting with worms, we will get a worm bin in your basement!
If he has any other questions about this stuff, get him to send me an email, or even give me a call. I would be happy to answer all of his concerns about the worm bin.

 Thanks Jeff

Hi Jeff, I'm really excited about starting a worm composting box in my basement. However, when I mentioned this to my landlord (who is also a friend of mine) he was concerned that the basement is too damp and having worms down there would cause the drywall to mold.

I'm just getting started with the worm composting and I'm not really sure how to respond to his concern? The basement does not seem any damper than any other basement I've been in. I think the idea of worms in his house is a foreign idea to him. Do you have any suggestions on how to respond and if his concern is a valid one?

Thanks Dan
You can be sure I will be calling on some of your findings in all your experiments, To get this "harmless" way of Composting our garbage
To the publics level of understanding. By doing all my Classroom visits, garden shows, radio shows and TV shows we can change the way of disposing our organic garbage, one person at a time, Or should I say one classroom, radio show or TV show at a time!!!
The times we are in, we have to change the way we think. This is only one way of reducing our organic waste,
We have alot of great programs in place to reduce our garbage, we all need to use these great programs, THEY WORK!!!
Where do we put our garbage when the landfill is full??

Jeff, As per our discussion as the challenges you have had convincing others who lack the understanding of how this concept works, I wanted to extend my applause and support to your efforts.

As a researcher working with a collection of Universities across the country, as you and I have discussed, I am very interested in the progress you are making and in time as my University students I mentor come up to speed and contribute to this concept, I think it fair to say that in time one or more of my collegeus or myself will help to endorse your efforts. Although most of my previous science has been in other country ( Third World ) and with alternative energy concepts, we have turned to the Vermi Composting as all Universities are doing.

Naturally the ignorance or lack of willingness of people to try to enhance social programs by way of what you are doing is very discouraging.
Fortunately I work with a collection of Universities and cannot for the life of me understand that others would not share the interest in making our landfills more efficient. My hope is that, in time, as our research progress to pass along endorsements from the various organizations and Universities I represent. As I mentioned, my work extend mostly into alternative energy and technological design, but this Vermi compost has now occupied my attention, my associates attention and all purely at a scientific level. It is unfortunate that others don't seem to want to embrace what is a harmless but incredibly effective means of dealing with the reduction of what we as humans place into landfills.

I will do all in my power to work with my associates to help others understand that this is not just a flirting experiment but in time will become a science.
Maybe one day, with such apprehension to programs like this people may very well see how much it will cost for them to eliminate their garbage, or the premiums they might pay to have it picked up at their curb side. When, really, if they were part of the solution today they might help avoid that in the future.

Again, any help I can give from my associations with the Universities I deal with across North America if only to educate the people who are ignorant of the potential this method of composting provides would be a pleasure.

I will also talk to the faculty of the various universities to see if they can assist in and support your efforts in the future.

Best of luck and I look forward as do my colleagues to a long and prosperous scientific project with your co-operation.
You have my support and others as well. This is something to build on and hopefully those that don't quite understand the "harmless" aspect of Vermi compost can at least be educated and hopefully participate in the long run.

On a side note, should anyone in your area require a brief education as to what they are concerned about, I would be more than happy to talk to them directly.

Hi Jack

Thanks for your interest in my European N/C, I have seen a few that were close to the size of a Canadian N/C, but on average the Euro is about 1/2 the size of the Canadian N/C, As far as what worm is better for fishing? I think the euro is a better worm in alot of ways.
The euro will not die because of the temperture warming up through the day(out fishing) The euros are a warm weather worm, they don't need any (Refrigeration) The euro is a very active worm, and has a different colour then the Canadian N/C, in my opinion the euro catches more fish!!

Yes I can ship to Northwestern Quebec, I only sell these worms by the pound, Or already cupped and send to you,
How many in a pound?? 250-300 worms that would be close to bait size.

Hi, I own a fishing shop in Northwestern Québec. I sell canadian nightcrawlers. Are europeen nightcrawlers as big and good for fishing as the canadian. If so I could be interesting in buying. Also, do you ship? How much would it be for 500 nightcrawlers?
Thank you
